The Harare group is the largest and it started operating in 1992. It has a growing base of 23 support groups. Since its inception, the Harare province has been actively involved in advocacy and lobbying for the rights of children with disabilities and the rights of women in the areas of health, education, housing, property and land, dignity and recognition in society.
The Harare Province was started through parents meeting at outreach points run by Harare Hospitals Children’s Unit. The formation of support groups for parents of children with disabilities has offered an important and unique community service. This process has resulted in the empowerment of parents as advocates for women’s and children with disabilities’ rights.
